Travel can be a journey, a pilgrimage, both inward and outward. The possibilities inherent in travel range widely from diversion and leisure to physically demanding expeditions and spirit probing pilgrimages. When traveling, everything is seen as being of potential interest. The pleasure we derive from a journey may be dependent more on the mindset we travel with than the destination we travel to. We are alive to the layers of history beneath the present. When working in my studio, I am physically set in a 10'x10' room. Yet the flights of fancy, random connections and occasional glimpses of a reality that lies beyond the quotidian plane all make my studio a conveyance for an inward journey. Whether working or traveling, a silence falls outside while a dreaminess rises within. These pieces reflect those voyages.
